RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- German Cano continued his prolific scoring form as Fluminense secured a 1-0 home victory over Cuiaba in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
Cano struck in the second-minute by tapping home from close range after being set up by Paulo Henrique Ganso. The Argentine striker now has 13 goals from 21 league appearances this year.
The result at the Maracana stadium leaves Fluminense third in the 20-team Serie A standings with 38 points from 21 matches, seven points behind leaders Palmeiras. Cuiaba are 18th with 20 points.
In Sao Paulo, Palmeiras cruised to a 3-0 home win over Goias - their fifth straight league victory. Mayke and Raphael Veiga scored first-half goals for the hosts before Eduard Atuesta added a third seven minutes from time.
In other Brazilian Serie A fixtures on Sunday, Athletico Paranaense won 3-2 at Atletico Mineiro and Fortaleza prevailed 3-0 at home to Internacional.
