RIO DE JANEIRO, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Uruguay international left-back Matias Vina is close to joining Roma from Brazilian Serie A club Palmeiras, according to South American press reports.
Roma manager Jose Mourinho is targeting Vina to provide cover for Leonardo Spinazzola, who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon while playing for Italy during Euro 2020 earlier this month, according to news outlet Globo Esporte.
It added that the Italian Serie A club is willing to pay 11 million euros (13 million U.S. dollars) for the 23-year-old, whose Palmeiras contract expires in December 2024.
Vina has made 69 appearances for Palmeiras since his move from Uruguay's Club Nacional in January last year.
He has been capped 16 times for Uruguay's national team and was the Celeste's first choice left-back during this year's Copa America in Brazil.
