RIMINI, Italy, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Brazil beat Iran 3-1 here on Wednesday for their seventh straight win in the men's Volleyball Nations League (VNL), while Italy overwhelmed the Netherlands in four sets to climb to tenth in the standings.
Souza Ricardo Lucarelli scored a game-high 20 points to lead Brazil in their 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 25-21 victory over Iran, winning the game thanks to some solid blocking.
With the result, Brazil remain top of the table with a 10-1 win-loss record after Day 11.
Earlier on Wednesday, hosts Italy overcame the Netherlands 25-19, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-21 to improve their win-loss record to 5-6.
Nimir Abdel-Aziz scored a game-high 24 points and leads the tournament's scorers with 247 points. On the other side, Alessandro Michieletto and Francesco Recine made 20 points each for Italy.
"Today we played very good volleyball and we are very happy about this victory," said Michieletto. "We served very well and I think this was the most important element in our game."
Also on Wednesday, Russia beat Argentina 3-1, Serbia whitewashed Bulgaria 3-0, Slovenia overcame Australia 3-1, Poland swept Japan 3-0, Canada defeated Germany 3-0, and France overwhelmed the United States 3-1.
