BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

KIEV -- Ukraine reported 16,218 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, breaking the record of the highest daily cases for a second straight day.

The country has registered 693,407 COVID-19 cases so far, including 11,909 deaths.

BRASILIA -- Guilherme Boulos, Brazilian Socialism and Liberty Party's candidate for mayor of Sao Paulo, tested positive for the novel coronavirus Friday, his campaign said.

The 38-year-old candidate appears asymptomatic but will "comply with the quarantine protocol for the necessary period," according to his campaign.

NEW YORK -- This year would see no official SantaCon. Amid a surge in COVID-19 infections, the annual pub crawl where people dressed in Santa Claus costumes roam through streets here was canceled, according to the event's official website.

"We have to socially distance and wear a mask. Looking forward to 2021," the website said Thursday, also recommending several alternatives to spread merriment, for example a donation to local frontline workers fighting the pandemic.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland on Friday reported no new domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, with six newly confirmed cases all arriving from outside, the National Health Commission said Saturday.

No new suspected cases or deaths related to COVID-19 were reported Friday, the commission said in its daily report.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland reported six new imported COVID-19 cases Friday, bringing the total number of imported cases to 3,832.

Two new imported cases were reported in Fujian, and one each in Tianjin, Zhejiang, Sichuan and Yunnan, the National Health Commission said in its daily report Saturday.
