SANTIAGO, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chilean Minister of Health Enrique Paris said Friday eight regions of the South American country had decreased numbers of new cases of COVID-19 in the last seven days.
He said that in recent days the Magallanes region, in the extreme south of the country, continued to have the highest rate of cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The regions with the highest increase in new confirmed cases were Atacama and Coquimbo in the north, the Metropolitan Area in the center, and Nuble in the south, he said.
"We call on the people of these regions to maintain the self-care measures that continue to be the most effective: wearing masks, washing hands with soap and water, maintaining physical distance, among others," he said.
The Ministry of Health reported 1,573 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, with 48 deaths.
The country has registered a total of 537,585 cases of the disease, with 15,003 total deaths.
