NEGROS ORIENTAL, Oct. 11 (PIA) President Rodrigo Duterte has officially declared Friday, October 18, 2019 as a special non-working day in the province of Negros Oriental through Presidential Proclamation No. 826 that was approved today through Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

This is in line with the celebration of the Buglasan Festival of Festivals in Negros Oriental on October 14 to 27 with 237 events lined up for the occasion.

Earlier, Gov. Roel Degamo and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed a resolution for Malacanang to declare October 18 as a special non-working holiday in the province.

This will allow the people of Negros Oriental to celebrate and participate in the Buglasan Festival.

The main attraction this year is still the "Festival of Festivals" Showdown inside the Lamberto L. Macias Sports and Cultural Center (LLMSCC) 8:00am, and Street Dancing, and Float Competition around major streets in Dumaguete City at 2:00pm on Oct. 18.

Local government units (LGUs) that will send contingents in the festival's competitions are the following: Sta. Catalina (Pakol Festival); Dauin (Kinaiyahan Festival); Dumaguete City with two contingents representing Sandurot Festival (one from the school category and one from barangay category); Sibulan (Yagyag Festival but non-competing); Pamplona (Yamog Festival); Tanjay Saulog Festival through the representation of Brgy. Sta. Cruz Nuevo; and Bais City (Hudyaka Festival).

Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat of the Department of Tourism is also invited to witness the Buglasan's showdown and street dance as guest of honor.

The provincial government has allotted P11 million for several events and subsidy for each LGU participating in the Freedom Fair Booth and festival competitions.

To decongest the expected crowd turnout during the festival, the Buglasan main events will be spread out in three venues, namely: Freedom Park, Sidlakang Negros Village, and Robinson Place. (jct/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
