Israel and Libya establish contact
After Libya announced it was forgoing weapons of mass destruction, Israel initiated diplomatic contacts with Tripoli, according to a published report.
The head of the Israeli Foreign Ministry's diplomatic team, Ron Prosor, met about two weeks ago in Paris with Arab representative to establish a channel of communications with Tripoli.
The meeting was coordinated with Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Mossad chief Meir Dagan, the Ha'aretz news service reported Tuesday.
European diplomatic sources said Monday that senior Libyan and Israeli officials met in Vienna last week and agreed to send an Israeli delegation to the North African nation in the new year, Ha'aretz said.
Meanwhile, in Arab press reports, Libyan President Moammar Gadhafi said he is ready to compensate Libyan Jews whose properties had been confiscated and that he is prepared to allow Libyans to travel to Israel.
